I have a soft spot in my heart for the Historic Third Ward, so when the opportunity to collaborate with its most desired hotel presented itself, I was thrilled.
Cue in the Kimpton Journeyman Hotel.
Why do I love the Third Ward so much? I actually lived in this historic neighborhood for over four years and have enjoyed watching the transformation it has taken over the last ten years. When my parents told me they had purchased a condo in the Third Ward and we would be moving from Wauwatosa (halfway through my junior year of high school!) I was so confused, but was reassured that I would stay at the same high school AND have a huge closet. Little did I know, I would be in the prime location of Milwaukee, minutes from everything, and obviously, living in the coolest neighborhood in Milwaukee! Not to mention when college came around, I had the most desirable hang out spot before heading to Summerfest (one of the largest music festivals in the world) or out on the town for the evening. The Historic Third Ward, which is one of the most visited areas of Milwaukee, is also known as an art district specifically for its Gallery Night and Day event, which takes place four times each year. It’s full of character and is always booming with locals and tourists alike.
I was ecstatic to hear Milwaukee was getting it’s first Kimpton Hotel, the Journeyman. I visited the Kimpton Monaco Hotel in Denver, Colorado a few years back, and was blown away by the service, decor, and ambiance. I knew a boutique hotel would be the perfect addition to our city and the location was so fitting. What was even more exciting is that it would be built right next to my parent’s condo so I can visit them and head over to the hotel’s rooftop bar after.
When the Journeyman Hotel opened, I immediately went to check it out. I was blown away by the luxe interior design and the meticulous attention to detail found even in the smallest nooks and crannies. Featuring stunning light fixtures, an inviting fireplace, and mid-century modern decor, the hotel caters to all tastes and is the perfect addition to the Milwaukee hotel portfolio, as there is no other hotel like it.
Besides the stunning interior design, there are other amazing amenities the Journeyman offiers: their social hour for guests featuring free local brews, their pet-friendly vibe, with pet sitting and dog walking services available, a pool table in the lobby and a personal, complimentary yoga mat in your room. You will be entertained during your stay, for sure.
Naturally, I arrived in style thanks for to my friends over at American Alchemy, an adorable and fashionable boutique based out of Ripon, Wisconsin. I discovered the boutique from a friend’s Instagram story. I sent her a direct message and said, “that boutique looks adorable”. Little did I know, that at the same time, she was telling the store owner about me and we were able to partner to show off this outfit. This fuzzy sweater was almost impossible to take off because it was sooooo comfortable. It was like a hug from a cloud. Paired with black pants and a body suit, my fun outfit was finished off with a funky necktie. Check out their Instagram here.
Back to the Journeyman…our room was cozy, modern and very inviting. We had beautiful views of Broadway Street, the main street of the Historic Third Ward. The stocked mini bar was tempting. And the bathroom…Major Instagram Goals. My favorite feature of the king spa suite was indeed the bathroom! Once you see the photos, I don’t think I have to explain why I loved it so much. The room was unique, with a very welcoming warm feeling.
I have really been digging two-piece pajamas lately. I feel ritzy and fancy when I wear them, anyone else? This fun printed set is by MidnightBakery, you can find it at Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s, my set is linked here.
Slip dress can be found here. I will definitely be wearing this over a long sleeve this winter.
Outsider
I have been a regular of the Outsider since it’s opening day. I actually went the opening day and waiting alongside the excited crowd…stalker, I know. But, since it is one of Milwaukee’s first rooftop bars, I had to be one of the first people through the door. It is honestly one of my favorite places in Milwaukee. I often get asked where I would recommend for a fun girl’s night joint, date night bar, or the best happy hour place, and my answer is always the same…The Outsider at the Journeyman. When you go there you feel exclusive and elite. The cozy fireplaces, delicious cocktails, and laid back atmosphere really make it inviting to anyone. What’s even more amazing is their rooftop deck is open all seasons and, don’t worry, if you get a bit chilly, they offer adorable cabin style throw blankets.
These pants from SoHo Boutique were the perfect happy hour look. The ring zipper detail on these Pistola jeans screamed 90’s and I had to have them. Paired with a cozy off the shoulder sweater, statement belt and shoes, I was feeling like Sandy from Grease.

The best part of happy hour, I got my picture hating husband to get in front of the camera. Small victories right people!?
Tre Rivali
I have only eaten lunch at Tre Rivali, but it’s amazing and I was thrilled to try dinner there. Their lentil veggie burger, which I have enjoyed multiple times, is major #vegetariangoals! The evening of our stay, we were lucky enough to enjoy dinner at Tre Rivali. We started the dinner off with the charcuterie plate. It is one of the best cheese plates in the city. Their fresh honeycomb is my favorite part!
As my main course, I had the mascarpone cheese ravioli, which is handcrafted with wild mushrooms, peas, brown butter, and sage. So savory, so delicious. Michael enjoyed the smoked black cod made with pimentos, rye shortbread crumbs, and fresh horseradish aged red wine vinegar. I snuck a bite, so good and I don’t even eat fish!!!
What makes dining at Tre Rivali so special to me is that I have met their Executive Chef, Heather Terhune, and she is so cool. I spent a night learning how to make pasta with her back in January.
In addition to their food being amazing, the ambiance is perfect for a date night. Michael and I felt cozy in our booth, but the restaurant is also suitable for a birthday dinner with your girlfriends or abusiness outing sure to impress your colleagues.
If you’re coming to Milwaukee from out of town, The Kimpton Journeyman Hotel is a great option for your stay. If you live locally, consider a staycation. You’ll have more than enough to do and feel like royalty.
