Instagram is Removing the Like Counter. Three Reasons Why this is a Good Thing.

I’m going to start this post off by saying: I am not an expert, and everything in this post is MY opinion. As we all know, getting exact details on social media platforms can be a bit difficult, and questions are often left unanswered.

I have been a user of Instagram since 2008 and try to keep up with the changes and algorithm as much as I can. These opinions are based on my research and years of being addicted to the platform. With that said, I want to pose a question. Do you remember the last time Facebook and Instagram made an upgrade or change?… Most likely not. We adapt to these changes and, for the most part, they are beneficial for the users. It’s not to say we aren’t a bit frustrated in the beginning, but we ultimately get used to it!

One of the benefits of Instagram removing the like counter is it will change the way we use the app. I can say I sometimes do not post photos because I am worried they will not perform as well as I hope they will. However, sometimes I post a photo I am SO proud of, and it just doesn’t perform well. It can be the time of day, not being delivered, the hashtags I used…who knows. But you have to post for yourself, not to please others. Believe me, if I knew all the ingredients to the perfect Instagram photo, I’d be the #1 influencer, right?!

Not only will removing the likes make us connect more with each other, but it will also encourage engagement. If someone doesn’t “like” a photo and they really like it, you better believe they will probably leave a comment. I also feel, by taking away the ‘pressure of the likes,’ people will be more creative. Meaning, if I find inspiration by a random thing, I may just post it to my feed.

Now guys, don’t fret. You’ll still be able to see your likes if you really care to check. Others will not see the number, but you’ll be able to see who has liked a photo. I would be lying if I said I didn’t look at my likes; however, what really matters is that I am putting out content people want to see and feel inspired by.
