5 Instagrammable Milwaukee Spots

Often called a ‘hidden gem’, Milwaukee is pretty great and I will do all I can to spread the word! Known for beer, cheese, music festivals, and art, Milwaukee, Wisconsin is pretty great! As Milwaukee has been my Instagram playground for years, I wanted to share a few of my favorite places to snap a photo!

Milwaukee Art Museum

Situated on the beautiful Lake Michigan lakefront, you cannot visit or live in Milwaukee without visiting the Milwaukee Art Museum.

The famous Burke Brisole was designed by the talented Santiago Calatrava and open and close each day at 10 am, noon, and 5 pm.

With over 31,000 works of art from antiquity to the present, including engaging paintings, sculptures, decorative art, textile, and video art, the Milwaukee Art Museum is one of the greatest museums in the United States.

The Milwaukee Art Museum is located at 700 N Art Museum Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 53202.

Historic Third Ward

Whether its a walk around the neighborhood or a cocktail at The Outsider rooftop bar, you’re in store for great views of Milwaukee’s art district.

I lived in the Historic Third Ward for over five years and still love it dearly. The Third Ward neighborhood in Milwaukee gained its notoriety in the early ’80s as the art district and has been growing since. Before then, the area was a large warehouse/manufacturing neighborhood. The condominium building I lived in was a cosmetic company factory. The floors were purposely built on an angle for the factory’s drains.

When you walk the Historic Third Ward, you will find plaques describing its rich history. I highly recommend taking the afternoon to explore the beautiful neighborhood full of art galleries, small businesses, and delicious restaurants.

A few of my favorite businesses include: Onesto, Mod Gen, & you cannot go to the neighborhood without a visit to the Milwaukee Public Market.

Black Cat Alley

This is Milwaukee’s first and only street art alley located on the east side of Milwaukee. Tucked away between busy businesses, Black Cat Alley was developed in 2015 by a group of community members and artists in partnership with Wallpapered City LLC, and sponsored by the East Side BID. The are over 20 murals created by more than 24 artists from all over the world, and it continues to grow!

A little secret for you… There is a speakeasy that is only accessed by Black Cat Alley called Shanghai MKE. I won’t give away the password to get in, but it is worth going in for a delicous cocktail!

The Lady Bug Building

Yes, those are huge ladybugs climbing the historic Milwaukee Building downtown Milwaukee. I have loved this building for years and years, but I mean, who doesn’t love these adorable ‘good luck’ bugs? Installed by the art lover, John J Burke Jr. in the early 2000s, the bugs have made the news multiple times and are hard to miss when driving down the busy Water Street in downtown Milwaukee. Want to know more? Hear the whole story here!

The building is located at 622 N Water Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 53202.

East Town Spa – The best pink building in Milwaukee

I don’t think there is any explanation as to why this adorable building made my list. With the amount of times I have taken photos outside of the building, the least I should do is book a massage!

The East Town Spa is located at 718 E Wells St, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53202.
