Does anyone else get a little overwhelmed on what to wear on the weekends? I know that sounds ridiculous, but any other business professionals that have to dress up during the week have a little crisis for an outfit for a casual Saturday brunch… Luckily the trends have been in my favor to make life a bit easier. What I do is start with one trend and base my outfit around that. This outfit it was these amazing mom jeans. I paired it with a sweater, statement necklace and cozy mules, ta-da, I’m done!
How do you decide what to wear on the casual days?
Happy Monday! Not to get so serious to start off your week, but I have to tell you all a story…
Now I know I have often spoke on this issue, but taking photos this day in particular really brought it to a head… being appreciative of your life and what you have. As other bloggers may do (or I am just a psycho?) I am always scoping out locations and backdrops for my photos for my blog and for Instagram. I work in downtown Milwaukee and pass this building almost daily. It was the home to one of Boston Store’s oldest locations. As you may or may not have heard, all locations are closing. This is so sad to me because I not only worked at this exact store for many years (whoot whoot, shoe department) but have worked with the company for my blog as you may recall, here and here.
But back to the story… Gina (GE Creative) and I walked over to this little corner I have always loved and found both sections of it were blocked. One side with a shopping cart and the other with a homeless gentleman sleeping with his belongings spread over him. Luckily we were able to sneak in for some shots without disturbing him. But, it breaks my heart to see anyone homeless and most of you would not know I have experienced the struggles of it with a close family member.
So, the moral of my story is to always check yourself. I know we all have good and bad days, but remember, if you are reading this, you are well off. I take pride in and appreciate that I am so fortunate to be able to express my love for fashion and styling with all of you everyday.
The last couple weeks I have been hearing and learning more about the benefits of being humble. I hope most of you agree when I say, I believe I am…
Did you know I’m a denim snob?
That’s right, I will gladly spend over $200 on jeans because THEY WILL LAST! That’s not to say all of my jeans are designer (not a millionaire), but when I need a good pair of a dark wash jeans, you better believe I will splurge. Now, a lot of you may think I am crazy and think it is a waste of money, but just as an example, I have a pair of Hudson Jeans I have had for over 4 years and they look brand new. It’s also a great way to keep yourself accountable, because no one wants to outgrow an expensive pair of pants!
Not sure what to wear? Well I am with you on some level. It could be 20 degrees in the morning and then you are sweating by 3pm. Example number one: it just snowed eight inches last week and I wore open toed shoes the week before. Not much you can do about it other than deal and try to make the best… Or maybe move to Florida.
When thinking about this transition time, I try to pair items that can fit in two seasons. I got this funky cropped jean jacket from Pretty Little Thing. The ruffle adds a bit of femininity to the style. Pairing it with a floral jumpsuit was my way to feeling an ounce of Spring!
What do you wear in the awkward in-between times?
If you follow me on Instagram you have seen that the Corners of Brookfield is one of my new favorite malls. Not only does it have stores that are different from a normal mall, there are more than five stores in the lifestyle center that are new to Wisconsin and me! Scout and Molly’s is one of the stores that I was introduced to, so I wanted to share my experience on my latest shopping visit. It is the only location in Wisconsin too!
Many of you may have read my review of Hair Story‘s shampoo, New Wash. If not, you can find it here! A little back info, Hair Story was introduced to me by my fabulous hair stylist, Kate Kent of Nice Hair. She is always looking for natural and innovative products, as she is representing herself in the hair styling industry. She introduced me to Hair Story earlier this year and I LOVE IT! New Wash, their only and best shampoo cleans you hair with aloe and essential oils – instead of detergent. I was treated to the rest of the products and cannot wait to share my opinions with you!
What goes around comes around, right?
Well, the 90’s grunge look has been in style for a while and I just haven’t felt ballsy enough to try it. I grew up in the 90’s, so there is something about a jean jacket or cropped tank top that I really enjoy, but I just didn’t think I could pull it off… Maybe I can, maybe I can’t; I will let you guys be the judge! Growing up I was a total tomboy (weird and unexpected… I know) so mixing some over-sized pieces with sexy ones was fun! I got a bit of courage to step out of my style box when I teamed up with Pretty Little Thing. Their clothes are trendy, fashion forward and most excitingly, affordable! What I love about their items are that you able to wear them day to night! I styled this outfit with that in mind.
All photos are outside of one of my favorite Milwaukee landmarks, the Milwaukee Art Museum. I have always been obsessed with the architecture of it and have a soft spot in my heart because the owner of my company was a large donor for the wings that open twice a day. I know I don’t need to tell my local followers to head there, but my out of towners, if you are ever in the Milwaukee area, this is a must see.
It’s my favorite time of the year! Kind of kidding but kind of not! The semiannual Boston Store Goodwill® sale is officially on until March 24th and, luckily for you, I teamed up with Goodwill® Industries International to showcase their spring sale at Boston Store and the Bon-Ton family stores by showing you my purchases and sharing my shopping experience!
So, first things first,- I cleaned out my closet. Now, you all know by now I am a major hoarder so this can be difficult sometimes. I have really been trying to slim down my wardrobe and purge items I don’t wear anymore. Thinking about how just one bag of clothes donated can create an hour of on-the-job training for someone who needs help finding a job definitely helps motivate me!
